چکیده
This report covers the seminar on Disjunctive Logic Programming and Databases: Non-monotonic Aspects, held at Dagstuhl, Germany during July 1–5, 1996. This seminar was organized by Jürgen Dix, Donald Loveland, Jack Minker, and David Warren to meet the growing interest in this area of research. It brought together about forty researchers from various countries. Dagstuhl, a place being developed exclusively for research activities in Computer Science, provides an excellent atmosphere for researchers to meet and exchange ideas. During the five days of the seminar, there were vaious talks, panel discussions, and system demonstrations. This report summarizes all these activities. Using Teacher- and Student-Developed Graphic Organizers as a Writing Tool
This study investigated 1) whether the effect of teacher-developed graphic organizers vis-à-vis student-developed ones was more significant on improving intermediate EFL learners’ writing, and 2) whether the use of both graphic organizers had any impact on their writing. The participants were selected in two stages: 130 students sat for a piloted proficiency test. Those who scored above half of...
متن کاملGlycoconjugates Distribution during Developing Mouse Spinal Cord Motor Organizers
Background: The aim of this research was to study the distribution and changes of glycoconjugates particularly their terminal sugars by using lectin histochemistry during mouse spinal cord development. Methods: Formalin-fixed sections of mouse embryo (10-16 fetal days) were processed for lectin histochemical method. In this study, two groups of horseradish peroxidase-labeled specific lectins we...
متن کاملThe Impact of Visualization and Graphic Organizers on EFL Learners’ Cognitive, Emotional, and Behavioral Engagement and Listening
The present study examined the impact of visualization and graphic organizers as pre-listening strategies on English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ cognitive, behavioral, and emotional engagement and their listening comprehension. To do so, this study was carried out in three listening classes at Islamic Azad University of Mashhad. The participants included 80 junior EFL university stude...
متن کاملScaffolding Comprehension and Recall Gaps: Effects of Paratextual Advance Organizers
Although filling the gap in reading comprehension gained momentum with the rise of the top-down approach, Vygotsky’ concept of scaffolding and the dual code theory provided a strong support for the use of paratext to enhance comprehension. Scaffolding is dependent on other-regulation, one type of which is object-regulation. From this vantage-point, various types of paratext can function as sou...
متن کاملUsing Discourse Structure-Based Graphic Organizers (GOs) in Developing EFL Learners’ Reading Comprehension
This study investigated the effectiveness of discourse structure-based graphic organizers (GOs) on students’ reading comprehension. Seventy learners were randomly divided in two equal experimental and control groups. They took a pre-test of reading comprehension. Then the experimental group analyzed the textual structures based on the frameworks of GOs and discussed the cohesive and coherent de...
